DOVER, Del. — Andy Santerre Motorsports rookie driver Brett Moffitt of Grimes, Iowa, capped the NASCAR Camping World Series East season with a victory in the Sunoco 150 at Dover International Speedway. Fellow rookie Ryan Truex finished eighth and captured the series championship.
Moffitt’s second win of the season will be the last for ASM as team owner Andy Santerre of Cherryfield, has sold his team.
Truex of Maietta, N.J., finished 34 points ahead of Rowley, Mass. native Eddie MacDonald to win the title. He’s the fifth different champion in the last five seasons.
The 17-year-old Michael Waltrip Racing development driver is the younger brother of Sprint Cup driver Martin Truex Jr.
Moffitt finished third in points followed by Jody Lavender and Steve Park. Lyman native Alan Tardiff was seventh despite missing a race.
Moffitt took the lead from Ryan Gifford on lap 117 and cruised to a 2.562-second win. He led a race-high 85 laps.
Gifford finished second followed by Corey LaJoie, David Mayhew and Tardiff. Park was sixth, Ryan Duff was seventh, with Truex, MacDonald and Jarit Johnson rounding out the top 10.
