CALAIS – Robert M. Redding, 92, passed away Thursday, Sept. 24, 2009, at Atlantic Rehab & Nursing Center, Calais. Robert was born Aug. 23, 1917, in Calais, son of the late Otis and Hattie (Fleming) Redding. He was a veteran of World War II, serving as an MP with the 352nd Fighter Squadron in England. Robert worked as a letter carrier for the U.S. Postal Service, Calais, for more than 30 years. He was a member of Sherman Brothers Post No. 3 American Legion of Calais, St. Croix Country Club, St. Croix Bowling Club and Calais Rod & Gun Club. In addition to his parents, Robert was predeceased by his wife, Ruth Redding; and his brother, Otis Redding Jr. Surviving are his sister, Margaret Talbot of Rockland; several nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews. A graveside service will be held 2 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 26, at Calais Cemetery. Arrangements by Mays Funeral Homes, Calais and Eastport.
