LUDLOW, Mass. – Alice N. (Barr) Bernatowicz, 84, of Tower Road, died Wednesday, Sept. 23, 2009, at her home. Born March 22, 1925, in Millinocket, she was the daughter of the late Charles and Ina (DeMerchant) Barr. Educated in Millinocket schools, she was a graduate of Stearns High School. She was a frequent visitor to the state of Maine, visiting family and friends in her home state. She is survived by her husband, Stanley J. Bernatowicz; her sons, Brian Houghton of Charleston, S.C., Jeffery Houghton of Ludlow, Mass., and Ross Houghton of Seattle; her daughters, Bonita Lucek of Great Barrington, Mass., and Robin Mason of Roswell, N.M.; and a sister, Marion Williams of Bangor. She is a grandmother of four, and is also survived by many extended family members and friends. Funeral services celebrating her life will be 1 p.m. Monday, Sept. 28, at Kapinos-Mazur Funeral Home, 64 Sewall St., Ludlow, Mass. Rites of committal will be at the Massachusetts Veterans’ Memorial Cemetery.
