Stonington pair charged in underage drinking case

ELLSWORTH, Maine — The Hancock County Underage Drinking Task Force made several arrests last weekend as the result of a countywide detail.

According to Deputy Christopher Thornton of the Hancock County Sheriff’s Department, who heads the task force, officers on Saturday arrested Tammy Powers, 51, and her husband, Douglas Powers, 59, both of Stonington, and charged them with providing a place for minors to consume alcohol.

Eban Powers, 18, of Stonington also was arrested and charged with furnishing alcohol to a minor. Officers issued summonses to Andrew Mitchell, 18, of Deer Isle and a 16-year-old boy from Deer Isle, charging them with possession of alcohol by a minor.

In a separate incident, task force officers arrested Jason Cross, 26, of Ellsworth and Evan Bland, 23, of Ellsworth on charges of violating conditions of release.

Officers also conducted alcohol compliance checks at 28 locations throughout the county. Four stores were found in violation by selling alcohol to underage patrons.

Information on the four stores has been forwarded to the state of Maine Liquor License Division for administrative action.
