East Machias elects Tuell selectman 59-1

By Sharon Kiley Mack, BDN Staff

EAST MACHIAS, Maine — Will Tuell, 31, was overwhelmingly elected selectman Monday night at a special town meeting.

The election, to fill a seat vacated when former Selectman Robert Chase died recently, had only two candidates, Will Tuell and James Bransfield.

Tuell won with 59 votes; Bransfield had one. Thomas Gaddis was the moderator.

After his election, Tuell credited the current two board members, Kenneth “Bucket” Davis and Dale Richardson, as well as Chase, with keeping the town on an even keel.

“This is a very good town,” Tuell said, “and we have a lot to be thankful for. There are a lot of Maine towns in a bad way right now but East Machias is doing well.”

After his short speech, Tuell told the townspeople “Now go home and enjoy the Red Sox game,” to laughter and applause.
