GARDINER, Maine — A soldier from Farmingdale who was killed in action in World War II is being honored Sunday at a ceremony in Gardiner.
Staff Sgt. Alden Littlefield died in Germany while serving with the 42nd Infantry Division and Gen. George Patton’s 7th Army. Littlefield was killed while providing cover fire for his squad, and was awarded the Silver Star and the Purple Heart for his heroic actions.
On Sunday, the state of Maine is recognizing Littlefield’s heroism at a Gold Star Medal Presentation as part of the 133rd Engineer Battalion Change of Command Ceremony at the Gardiner Commons.
Alden Daigle and Chief Master Sgt. John Alden Daigle, who serves with the U.S. Air Force in Germany, will accept the medal on behalf of the family.
