MACHIAS, Maine — An alternative energy and telecommunications exposition, “Destination Washington County, 2009 and Beyond,” will be held at 9 a.m. Saturday, Sept. 26, at the Lee Pellon Center on Route 1 in Machias.
Town Manager Betsy Fitzgerald said the goal of the event is to introduce residents and visitors to the newest technologies in the fields of alternative energy and telecommunications.
She said the center will be filled with cutting edge displays of some of the newest examples of renewable energy. Company representatives will be on hand to discuss individual locations, installations and best-case-scenarios.
“One of the goals of the show and expo is to help area residents make the most of their energy dollars by highlighting the options available for homeowners and businesses,” Fitzgerald said.
Uses of telecommunications technology will also be highlighted. At the expo, vendors will be on hand to discuss access to the information highway for individuals and businesses.
“As more and more of our lives are conducted in cyberspace, understanding the technology and appreciating its potential is almost a requirement,”’ the manager said.
The event is a team project, presented by the Machias Bay Area Chamber of Commerce, Sunrise County Economic Council, Axiom Technologies, Northwestern Mutual Financial, the town of Machias, and the Washington County Council of Governments in collaboration with the University of Maine Cooperative Extension office.
