TRENTON, Maine — A New Jersey woman was killed and six other people were injured in a head-on crash Monday night on Route 3.

According to the Hancock County Sheriff’s Department, a passenger in one of the vehicles, Ramyaa Lakshminarayananr, 29, of Jersey City, N.J., died at Maine Coast Memorial Hospital in Ellsworth from injuries she received in the accident.

The crash occurred at about 7 p.m. on Labor Day. The woman’s husband, Prabhuram Sivaprakasam, 31, of Jersey City, was driving a 2010 Hyundai headed north on Route 3. He came upon a sweeping curve known as Romer’s Corner and his vehicle crossed the centerline into the path of a southbound 2007 Toyota Camry driven by Kelly McNutt, 50, of Noblesville, Ind. The two vehicles collided head-on in the southbound lane.

In the vehicle with Sivaprakasam and his wife were the couple’s 1-year-old child, Ram Pranav, and other family members Amudha Katram, 58, and Rajashri Gandhiraj, 26, all of New Jersey.

Katram was taken by LifeFlight helicopter to Eastern Maine Medical Center in Bangor. The others were taken to Maine Coast Memorial Hospital, and Gandhiraj was taken by ambulance to EMMC and was listed in fair condition there Tuesday.

No information was available Tuesday on the others’ conditions.

McNutt and a passenger in her vehicle, Douglas McCord, 50, of Indianapolis, Ind., also were injured in the accident. They were taken to MCMH, were treated and later released.

The crash is being reconstructed by Lt. Pat Kane of the Sheriff’s Department and remains under investigation by Deputies Luke Gross and Shane Campbell.

Trooper Jessica Shorey of the Maine State Police assisted them at the accident scene. The officers also were assisted by crews from County Ambulance and LifeFlight.
