N.J. man injured in Edinburg crash

EDINBURG, Maine — A New Jersey man was transported to Penobscot Valley Hospital in Lincoln on Saturday after his vehicle left the highway and rolled over, landing on its side.

Trooper Kyle Willette of the Maine State Police said James Gaucher, 50 of Mahwah, N.J., apparently fell asleep while driving south on Interstate 95 through Edinburg. His 2004 Ford Freestar van drifted into the median and rolled.

Rescue crews from Howland and Lincoln extricated Gaucher from the driver’s seat and transported him to the Lincoln hospital. There were no passengers in the vehicle.

Gaucher was wearing a seat belt at the time of the accident and was conscious and alert at the scene, according to Willette.

Gaucher was in good condition Sunday evening, according to a hospital spokeswoman.
