PORTLAND, Maine — The cruise ship Explorer of the Seas is making the first of four visits to Portland when it docks this weekend.
With more than 3,100 passengers aboard, the Royal Caribbean vessel has more passengers than of any of the cruise ships berthing in Portland this year. The Explorer of the Seas sailed from Cape Liberty, N.J., before heading to Portland for Saturday’s visit. At the end of the day it sails for Bar Harbor.
The Explorer is the third cruise ship to visit Portland in the last week.
The American Glory, an American Cruise Line ship, was in port Sunday before sailing for Boothbay Harbor. Holland America Line’s Maasdam was also in port last Sunday. Altogether, the three ships carried more than 4,400 passengers.
