LINCOLN, Maine — An early morning fire displaced a father and son and destroyed their mobile home on the Millett Mallett Road in Lincoln.

Sam Clay, a town councilor, and his son Jonathan Clay awoke sometime after 1 a.m. Monday to the sound of their smoke alarm, according the Lincoln Fire Department.

The two escaped before the fire spread, but by the time firefighters arrived, the home was destroyed. Firefighters from Lincoln, Howland and Lee knocked the flames down quickly but couldn’t save the structure. The fire did not spread to a detached garage on the property.

Clay has insurance on the home and a place to stay temporarily. The local chapter of the American Red Cross also has been called, according to the department.

The cause and origin of the fire had not been determined by Monday afternoon, although the state fire marshal was called. The fire is not considered suspicious.
