Maine drywall contractor sentenced for tax evasion

AUGUSTA, Maine — A drywall contractor from Maine has been sentenced to 60 days in jail for failing to pay state income taxes on for six years.

Attorney General Janet Mills said Friday that 42-year-old Christopher Janes of South Berwick pleaded guilty this week to six counts of failing to file or pay taxes. He was then sentenced and ordered to pay the state more than $64,000 in back taxes and interest.

Mills said Janes had gross income ranging from $36,000 to more $290,000 from 2002 to 2007, the years he failed to file state income tax returns.
