DOVER-FOXCROFT, Maine — A local man was injured Wednesday after he passed out while driving on Main Street and his vehicle crossed the street and struck a parked car, causing a chain reaction with two other parked vehicles.
Norman Higgins, 63, suffered a head injury and cuts and was taken by ambulance to Mayo Regional Hospital in Dover-Foxcroft for treatment after the accident, which occurred at about 10 a.m.
Higgins, a consultant for the state Department of Education, had gone through the intersection and was eastbound on Main Street when he passed out, according to Sgt. Gary West of the Dover-Foxcroft Police Department.
West said Higgins’ 2005 Buick traveled across the on-coming lane and struck a parked car on the south side of the road. The impact forced the parked car into a second parked vehicle and the second vehicle into a third parked vehicle.
Damage to Higgins’ vehicle and two of the parked vehicles, a 2004 Dodge and 2009 Toyota, was extensive, according to West. The third vehicle had about $1,000 in damage, he said.
