BANGOR, Maine — The Bangor man police arrested two weeks ago for the murder of 19-year-old Holly Boutilier of Old Town was indicted Monday by the Penobscot County grand jury.

Colin Koehler, 34, of Bangor allegedly went for a walk along the waterfront with the victim and a 27-year-old Bangor man on Aug. 8. When the trio got to a shack hidden in the trees between the end of Dutton Street and the Veterans’ Remembrance Bridge, Koehler used a small curved Japanese-style knife to stab her multiple times and cut her throat, court documents state.

Koehler and the male witness were caught on Hollywood Slots video surveillance cameras leaving the area at 2:11 p.m. Aug. 8, according to police. After walking down Main Street, which included a stop at Shaw’s grocery store, the two proceeded to Koehler’s Columbia Street apartment, where he placed the weapon on top of the refrigerator, the witness told police.

In the four-page police affidavit, which was filed in Penobscot County Superior Court on Aug. 13, police spoke with two people — Koehler’s ex-girlfriend and her boyfriend — who both said he admitted to killing Boutilier during phone conversations on Sunday, Aug. 9.

The boyfriend, a 34-year-old Bangor man, also told police that Koehler had text messaged him on Aug. 9 asking him to “meet him in the area of I-395 overpass, under the bridge.” When the boyfriend responded that he didn’t meet his enemies on their turf, “Koehler answered that it was too bad that Holly didn’t know that,” the affidavit states.

Bangor police arrested Koehler on Tuesday, Aug. 11, at his downtown apartment after a standoff. He made his first court appearance on Aug. 13 in Penobscot County Superior Court and did not enter a plea.

Koehler was indicted Monday for intentional or knowing murder. He is being held without bail at the Penobscot County Jail. Last week, Koehler waived his right to a bail hearing but could ask for one at a future date.
