PRESQUE ISLE and FORT FAIRFIELD – Leah L. Boyd, 95, wife of the late Kempton A. Boyd, passed away Friday afternoon, Aug. 21, 2009, at a Presque Isle nursing facility, after an extended illness. She was born Jan. 6, 1914, in Putnam, Conn., the daughter of Wilfred and Eugenie (Potvin) Loiseau. Leah was a graduate of the Willimantic (Conn.) school system and was married to Kempton A. Boyd, April 23, 1944. She had been employed as a sales clerk for many years at Achorn’s Shoe and Clothing Store, Green’s Clothing Store, both of Fort Fairfield, and had been a resident of Presque Isle for 24 years. Mrs. Boyd was a member of the former Fort Fairfield Community General Hospital Guild, and enjoyed knitting, crocheting, reading, board and card games, however her greatest joy was spending time with her family. She was especially proud of having sung at numerous weddings and events with her three sisters, Lillian, Jeanette and Gertrude. In addition to her parents, Mrs. Boyd was predeceased by her husband, Kempton, July 1, 1984; one daughter, Sandra L. Hunt, May 26, 2009; one brother, Albert Loiseau; and three sisters, Lillian Bonney, Jeanette Bachowsky and Gertrude Warman. She is survived by one son and daughter-in-law, Daniel and Jill Boyd of Presque Isle; one daughter and son-in-law, Linda and Jay Jones of The Woodlands, Texas; one grandson, Derek Boyd and his wife, Virginia, of Hubbardston, Mich.; five great-grandchildren, Matthew, McKenzie, Noah, Grace and Faith, all of Hubbardston, Mich.; several nieces and nephews. The Boyd family extends their heartfelt gratitude to the staff and Leah’s faithful friends at Presque Isle Nursing Home and Rehab for the wonderful and loving care given to both Leah and her family during her stay there. Friends may call 11:30 a.m.-1 p.m. Tuesday, Aug. 25, at Giberson-Dorsey Funeral Home, 144 Main St., Fort Fairfield, where the funeral service will be conducted 1 p.m. with Pastor Michael Shaw officiating. The interment will be held after the service at Riverside Cemetery, Fort Fairfield. A time of continued fellowship with refreshments will be held after the interment service at VFW Paul Lockhart Post No. 6187, Presque Isle Street, Fort Fairfield. Those who wish may contribute in memory of Mrs. Boyd to Presque Isle Nursing Home and Rehab, 162 Academy St., Presque Isle, ME 04769. Envelopes will available at the funeral home.
