Mainers show slightly more confidence in economy

The Associated Press

PORTLAND, Maine — A new survey released Thursday shows that consumer confidence in Maine is slowly rebounding from last fall’s depths of pessimism.

A survey by Market Decisions found that 47 percent of those surveyed said they were worse off financially than a year ago. Last October, 57 percent said they were worse off than a year earlier.

Sixty percent of those surveyed said they expect Maine to have bad times financially in the next 12 months, down from 76 percent last October who expected bad times for the coming year.

Portland-based Market Decisions conducted the telephone survey of 401 people between July 15 and July 31. It has a margin of error of plus or minus 5 percentage points.
