Michaud: No thanks to health care forum proposal

ORONO, Maine — U.S. Rep. Mike Michaud isn’t interested in a Republican challenger’s proposal for joint town hall discussion on health care.

Jason J. Levesque said in a letter to the incumbent Democratic congressman that health care is the biggest issue in Congress right now, and that Mainers deserve to be heard before Congress votes. He proposed a town hall-style forum in which both candidates would appear with a goal of “spirited debate.”

John Graham, Michaud’s deputy chief of staff in Maine, had a two-word response: “No. Thanks.” But he says Michaud, who represents the 2nd District, will be reaching out to Mainers on the health care issue over the next two weeks. He says there will be a teleconference and other events to be announced next week.
