DOVER-FOXCROFT, Maine — Sens. Olympia Snowe and Susan Collins say a disaster declaration covering counties hurt by storms, floods and landslides has been amended to include Piscataquis County.

The county wasn’t on the original list of eight Maine counties eligible for federal assistance following damage from heavy rain, hail, high winds, flooding and landslides between June 18 and July 8. The original damage estimate in the eight counties was estimated at more than $2.5 million.

Snowe and Collins says communities are eligible for two types of federal assistance programs: Public assistance to help communities recover and hazard mitigation grants for state and local governments to take actions to reduce long-term risk from natural disasters.
