Brooks man hurt in fall from Belfast building

BELFAST, Maine — A Brooks man was airlifted to a Bangor hospital after he apparently fell off a roof on Main Street early Saturday.

Jason Roberts, 28, was found lying on the street in front of the Coyote Moon shop at 12:05 a.m. and was taken by LifeFlight to Eastern Maine Medical Center.

Belfast Police Chief Jeffrey Trafton said investigators were unsure exactly what happened. He said a man walking down Main Street heard what he described as “a slap” and came upon Roberts on the pavement unconscious and bleeding. The witness ran to Rollie’s Bar and Grill across the street and told an employee to call the police.

Trafton said Roberts had been seen at the Lookout Pub earlier in the evening and had gone to a friend’s apartment above Coyote Moon. Trafton said the friend indicated that Roberts had climbed on the roof in the past. The friend told Roberts that the landlord frowned on that behavior. The roof is about 25 feet above the street.

“We’re still investigating, but right now I don’t think anybody knows for sure what happened,” Trafton said Mon-day.
