GREENVILLE, Maine — A local man was injured early Saturday morning when he was struck by a vehicle that had stopped in his Sunset Avenue driveway.

Newton Pierce, no age available, was taken to the Charles A. Dean Memorial Hospital in Greenville and then by LifeFlight helicopter to Eastern Maine Medical Center in Bangor. He was treated for his injuries and released later Sunday, according to an EMMC supervisor.

Greenville police Sgt. Jeff Pomerleau said Sunday that few details were available about the incident.

He said Pierce went outside at 2:22 a.m. to speak to someone in his driveway when he tripped and fell. The driver of the vehicle then backed over Pierce.

Pierce was unable to identify the vehicle or the driver, Pomerleau said.
