Motorcyclist dies from injuries in Shirley accident

DOVER-FOXCROFT, Maine — A Massachusetts motorcyclist who was thrown from his bike in an accident Wednesday in Shirley has died, according to the Piscataquis County Sheriff’s Department.

James McGinnis, 54, of Dedham. Mass., suffered massive head, internal, and upper torso injuries, Investigator Dave Wilson of the Piscataquis County Sheriff’s Department said after the accident. McGinnis had not been wearing a helmet when the 6 p.m. accident occurred on a sharp curve on Route 15.

McGinnis was taken by ambulance to Charles A. Dean Memorial Hospital in Greenville where he was stabilized after the accident. He was then airlifted by LifeFlight to Eastern Maine Medical Center in Bangor where he later died.
