BANGOR, Maine — Police say somebody in the outer Ohio Street area is burglarizing unlocked cars.
Within the last six days, 13 burglaries to cars parked in the area have been reported to Bangor police.
Deputy Chief of Police Peter Arno said no damage was done to any of the vehicles and all of the cars were unlocked. In one reported case, items were taken from a car parked in an unlocked garage.
“Typically what happens in these cases is there’s a couple of individuals who probably live somewhere in the area who are burglarizing places within an easy walk,” said Arno.
“It stands to reason that it was probably the same person, because of the close proximity to each other,” he added.
The following burglaries were reported to Bangor police:
• On Aug. 7, items were taken from cars parked on Bowling Drive, Griffin Road and Blue Hill West.
• On Aug. 8, four cars were burglarized on Alder Street, Birchwood Avenue and Yankee Lane.
• On Aug. 9, one car was burglarized on Sunset Avenue off Union Street.
• Four car burglaries were reported Wednesday morning: two on Ohio Street and two on Finson Road.
Police said cameras, laptop computers, jewelry and cash were taken from the unlocked cars.
“We do not have any suspects at this time,” said Arno. “We’ve asked our officers to step up patrols in the area.”
Arno suggested Bangor residents be on the lookout for suspicious activity.
