Bangor’s Artwalk next week

BANGOR — Join downtown artists and businesses for a summer night of self-guided studio tours. The Downtown Bangor Artwalk, set for 5-9 p.m. Friday, Aug. 21, is a celebration of Bangor’s local talent.

In addition to individual artists presenting original works in their studios, participating venues will open their doors for an evening of refreshments and music.

The Downtown Bangor Artwalk offers art enthusiasts a distinctive opportunity to view and mingle with some of Bangor’s artists while enjoying the shopping and one-of-a-kind dining that makes downtown Bangor a destination spot.

From printers, photographers, potters, fiber artists and conceptual artists to jewelry makers and luthiers, the downtown community embraces a variety of artists.

Artwalk highlights:

ä Reflections of Reflections, a new exhibit at the By Design gallery, reception 5-8 p.m. Aug. 20-21.

ä Haiti Matrix, signed and anonymous works by Haitian artists, showing at Java Joe’s on Central Street. Proceeds of sales will benefit La Maison de Naissance, a birthing center sponsored by the Healthy Mothers-Healthy Babies Foundation.

ä 9 Central Street Studios, featuring the work of its artists: Sally Gilbert, Page Eastman, Andrea Hand, Tree Heckler, Deb Jellison, JoAnne Houlsen, John LeBlanc and Sergio Ramos.

ä University of Maine Museum of Art, presenting “Highway of Thought,” photographs by David Hilliard; “Elegant Darkness,” photographs by Connie Imboden; and “Recent Sculptures” by Christopher Frost.

ä Emily Trenholm, an architectural landscape painter living in Bangor, displaying her work from the Down East region at her studio, 31 Central St.

And be sure to stop by the Hammond Street Senior Center to enjoy paintings and pottery by member artists.

The artwalk is organized by the Downtown Bangor Arts Collaborative.

Art-goers may pick up maps at Metropolitan Soul, the University of Maine Museum of Art, Bella Luna, Java Joe’s and Bangor Frameworks.
