CARIBOU, Maine – Investigators from the State Fire Marshal’s Office are investigating a fire that continued on and off over the weekend at Northeast Packaging Co. on Sincock Street.

Caribou Fire Chief Roy Woods said Monday that the fire broke out just after 10 p.m. on Friday.

According to the chief, employees were working inside the bag manufacturing facility on Friday evening and discovered that the facility was on fire when they came outside for a break.

Woods said that the whole west end of the building was consumed when firefighters arrived.

Fire crews fought the blaze for seven hours on Friday evening and into Saturday morning. They also returned several times over the weekend to put out hot spots attributed to the amount of paper in the facility.

No one was injured. As the fire damage was done to the end of the building used for storage, the facility is back at full operation today.
