BANGOR, Maine — Three local men and a teenager who took a purse from a woman early Thursday then brutally beat the man who tried to get it back, have been arrested for Class A robbery, Bangor police Lt. Tim Reid said.

“It started with a purse snatching in the area of Second Street Park, between Shaw’s and Dunkin’ Donuts,” he said. “One guy tried to get the purse back and sustained a number of facial injuries.”

The victim, a 24-year-old Bangor man, had multiple facial fractures after the 2:15 a.m. attack, Detective Sgt. Paul Kenison said.

“I think it is pretty serious, but it’s not life-threatening,” he said.

Police arrested Eric Moore, 19, Alex Justice, 18, David Walker, 28, and a 17-year-old male, who all live in Bangor, and charged them with felony robbery after the assault.

When police arrived at the park, the female purse owner, a 19-year-old Bangor resident, told officers that she and the victim had been walking through the park, when the four approached her and grabbed her purse. Police are not releasing the name of either victim.

When her friend attempted to get the purse back, “the four males then began to punch and kick the male, resulting in his injuries,” Kenison said in a statement.

The woman was not injured, and the suspects were not at the park when police arrived.

Police were able to find out where the men were, Kenison said

“Those four were questioned a short time later, and subsequently arrested,” he said.

The adults were taken to Penobscot County Jail and the juvenile was transferred to Mountain View Youth Development Center in Charleston.

If convicted of Class A robbery, the men face a penalty of up to 30 years in prison and a fine of up to $50,000.

Moore, Justice and Walker, who all remained in jail Thursday night, will have their first appearance in 3rd District Court in Bangor today, a jail official said.
