ELLSWORTH, Maine — A local man who allegedly was driving drunk and without a license when he was involved in a fatal accident in Deer Isle last winter was one of 15 people indicted Tuesday by a Hancock County grand jury.

Also on the indictment list is an Ellsworth man who allegedly broke into a Bar Harbor home while intoxicated last month, then was coaxed by the homeowner into leaving with a nonalcoholic beer.

Others indicted Tuesday include a Blue Hill man charged with unlawful sexual contact and a Bucksport man charged with unlawful sexual contact and gross sexual assault.

Anthony E. Robbins, 33, of Ellsworth is accused of driving a 2008 Chevrolet without a valid license when he was involved in a fatal accident in Deer Isle on Jan. 4.

He was indicted Tuesday on charges of manslaughter, aggravated criminal operating a motor vehicle while under the influence of intoxicants, operating a motor vehicle after license revocation and violating conditions of release.

According to police, Robbins was driving the car south on Reach Road when it went off the road and struck a utility pole around 3 p.m. Lisa Martin, 47, of Ellsworth owned the car and was riding as a passenger in the vehicle when the crash occurred, police said at the time. She died at the scene.

Speed and alcohol are considered factors in the accident, according to police.

According to records with the state Bureau of Motor Vehicles, Robbins has a history of motor vehicle violations that date back at least a decade, including license suspensions and convictions for OUI, operating a motor vehicle after license suspension and being a habitual offender.

Scott Cote, 22, of Ellsworth was indicted on multiple charges for allegedly breaking into a man’s home in Bar Harbor and then burglarizing parked cars on July 13.

Police indicated the day after Cote’s arrest that he had been intoxicated when he entered the Cleftstone Road home around 4 a.m. and woke up the homeowner. On finding Cote in his home, the man coaxed Cote into leaving by giving him a nonalcoholic beer, according to police.

Cote left, the homeowner called police, and they found him a few blocks away on Ledgelawn Avenue where he allegedly was burglarizing parked cars. Cote is accused of then fleeing on foot into nearby woods, where police apprehended him a short time later.

Cote was indicted on charges of theft, burglary, criminal trespass, criminal mischief, operating a motor vehicle after license revocation and violating conditions of release.

Victor Ireland, 31, of Bucksport was indicted on a charge of gross sexual assault and five counts of unlawful sexual contact. According to information on the indictment list, the alleged crimes occurred in Bucksport between July 2008 and May of this year.

Theodore S. Stanislaw, 50, of Blue Hill was indicted Tuesday on a single count of unlawful sexual contact. Stanislaw was indicted earlier this year on multiple sex charges for activity that allegedly occurred in 2004. According to the indictment list released Tuesday, the most recent charge stems from an incident that occurred in July 2006.

Assistant District Attorney Mary Kellett, who prosecutes sex cases in Hancock County, was on vacation Tuesday and unavailable for comment on the separate allegations against Ireland and Stanislaw.

Melissa Alfred, 31, Castine, theft.
