BROOKSVILLE, Maine — A 67-year-old Brooksville man was in custody Tuesday night after he was arrested in connection with a shooting incident earlier that evening.
Robert Herrick was arrested at his Herrick Road residence and charged with reckless conduct with a dangerous weapon. No one was injured in the incident, according to Lt. Tim Cote of the Hancock County Sheriff’s Dept.
The Hancock County Regional Communications Center received a call at 6:04 p.m. reporting that gunshots had been fired on Herrick Road near Herrick’s residence a mile or so from the intersection with Coastal Road, or Route 176, according to Cote. Sheriff’s deputies and Maine State Police and Warden Service officers converged on the area and blocked off Herrick Road.
Cote declined to discuss details of the incident, which is still under investigation. He would not say what prompted the shooting, what type of gun was fired, or what Herrick shot at.
Cote did say that Herrick left the scene of the shooting and drove to his home. The lieutenant contacted him inside the residence by telephone and convinced him to come out of the house. Herrick was arrested without incident and taken to the Hancock County Jail where he remained as of 9 p.m. Tuesday.
