ROCKPORT, Maine — Exotic birds died but a mixed-breed dog was saved after a fire Sunday afternoon at a home on Chickawaukie Pond.

Officials from the Rockport Fire Department and Camden First Aid performed CPR and used a pet mask to administer oxygen to the dog.

“The dog wasn’t breathing when they took it out of the house,” said Christopher Knight, EMS chief for Camden First Aid. “It took a couple of minutes to resuscitate it.”

It’s the second time that Camden First Aid responders have used their first aid pet masks. There is a pet mask in each of the agency’s emergency vehicles, Knight said.

Efforts to reach a Rockport Fire Department official Monday were unsuccessful.
