CORINTH, Maine — Two people were seriously injured when the motorcycle they were riding on collided with a car Tuesday on Route 15 at the junction of Hudson Hill Road.

The two motorcyclists, identified as Christopher Feltner, 29, of Eddington and his passenger, Karen Jones, 41, of Orono, were taken by ambulance to Eastern Maine Medical Center in Bangor, according to Deputy John Knappe of the Penobscot County Sheriff’s Department.

Knappe said that Feltner was listed in critical condition, while Jones was listed in serious condition.

The driver of the car, 56-year-old Glenn Burleigh of Stetson, was not injured.

According to Knappe, the accident occurred at 12:15 p.m. when Burleigh, who was traveling west on Hudson Hill Road, stopped at a stop sign at the intersection with Route 15. Though he reportedly looked in both directions before pulling into the roadway, Burleigh did not see the motorcycle, which was heading north on Route 15, and pulled into its path, Knappe said.

Feltner applied his brakes but was unable to avoid colliding with the car and struck its rear end, Knappe said.

The accident remains under investigation by Knappe and Deputy Scott Young, also of the Penobscot County Sheriff’s Department. In addition, accident reconstruction specialists from the Bangor Police Department have been called in to assist with the investigation, Knappe said.

Knappe said that Feltner’s 2000 Honda Shadow was demolished and that Burleigh’s 2001 Buick LeSabre had minor damage to its back end.

He said that both of the people on the motorcycle were wearing helmets and Burleigh was wearing his seat belt when the crash occurred.
