PORTLAND, Maine — A Portland company plans a $20 million wood pellet manufacturing plant in the central Maine town of Burnham.

In Tuesday’s announcement with Gov. John Baldacci, International WoodFuels said its plant will create up to 35 new jobs and produce up to 100,000 tons of premium pellets annually.

The company says it will break ground in September and start operations in June. International Woodfuels President Steven Mueller said the pellets will all be sold in Maine to meet demand for the fuel.

The new pellet plant will help keep Pride Manufacturing’s wooden golf tee plant going for years to come. Located side-by-side, the two companies will share some expenses and the pellet plant can use scrap wood generated by Pride.
