Bangor edges Brewer, moves to final round

BANGOR — Bangor edged Brewer 4-3 in a game of unbeatens to advance to the championship round of the District 3 Senior League all-star baseball tourney Monday night at Mansfield Stadium.

In the early game, Old Town/Orono-Veazie eliminated Holbrook 10-5 to set up another elimination game today at 5 p.m. against Brewer. That winner plays Bangor on Wednesday at 5 p.m. in the championship round and must beat Bangor twice to claim the district title.

The District 3 champion advances to the Senior League World Series that begins in Bangor on Aug. 16.

In the nightcap, Josiah Harley hit a single in the bottom of the seventh inning to drive in Tyler Desjardins for the game-winning run and lift Bangor past Brewer.

Bangor tied the game on an RBI double by Desjardins which drove in Joe Stanevicz who led off the inning with a single. Hartley hit a triple while Jack Stacey had two singles.

Joey Bartol had two singles and an RBI while Kyle McLain hit an RBI double for Brewer.

In the first game, David Wilcox and Anthony Cyr each hit an RBI single as Old Town/Orono-Veazie defeated Holbrook.

Old Town took advantage of two Holbrook errors in the sixth inning to score three runs and take a two-run lead.

Kyle Senter had three singles and a double for Holbrook. Max Andrews posted two singles and two RBIs while Jacob Chapman added two singles.
