Among the offerings: Skeet, trap, sporting clays, action pistol and cowboy action shooting.

All firearms, instruction, ammunition, eye and ear protection and lunch will be provided.

Each club will host a morning and an afternoon session. Preregistration is required. Call 941-8575 to register. Participants must be at least 18 years old.

The program is funded by a grant by the NRA Foundation.

Kayak fishing derby this weekend

The 4th annual Maine Kayak Fishing Tournament is being held today and Sunday on the Sheepscot, Kennebec, Androscoggin and New Meadows rivers.

The event, which is being hosted by Seaspray Kayaking, kicked off Friday with “Free Kayak Fishing Friday,” a series of free seminars on kayaking, fishing, fly tying and the outdoors.

Youngsters and adults then head onto the four rivers this weekend in an effort to catch the largest striped bass.

The catch-and-release tourney benefits the Maine Department of Inland Fisheries & Wildlife’s “Hooked on Fishing” program.

Pushaw derby planned

The Pushaw Lake Snowmobile Club will hold a fishing derby Aug. 2 on Pushaw Lake.

The derby will run from 5 a.m. until 5 p.m. Tickets are available for $3 at area businesses. A $200 door prize will be awarded and prizes will be given to anglers who catch the heaviest bass ($75), pickerel ($50) and white perch ($25). The angler who registers the most pounds of pike will earn $50.
