DOVER-FOXCROFT, Maine — The Foxcroft Academy trustees have accepted the resignation Wednesday of Dr. Raymond P. Webb, head of school.
Webb, who has served at the helm of the independent school for the past three years, plans to pursue other professional opportunities, according to a press release issued by the academy.
Webb was under a contract but chose to resign, Peter W. Culley, president of Foxcroft Academy’s board of trustees, said Thursday in a telephone interview.
Vandy Hewett, a trustee who served as interim head of school before Webb was hired, will serve in that capacity again until a new head has been selected, Culley said. He said a search would be conducted for a new head of school.
“We’re going to be assessing the qualities we want in a head and the school will be looking for a head that fits the qualities or has the qualities that we’re looking for,” Culley stated. He was unsure how long that process would take.
“We don’t have a timetable. We want to do a complete search before we make a final decision, so it probably will be for the next school year, in other words, for 2010-2011 school year. That would be our anticipation,” Culley said of having a new head on staff.
During his tenure, Webb worked to strengthen communication among the school, parents and SAD 68, which pays tuition for pupils from Monson, Sebec, Dover-Foxcroft and Charleston. The school also completed its accreditation process with the New England Association of Schools and Colleges while Webb served as head of school, according to the press release.
Webb played an integral role in helping the trustees move ahead with the construction of the school’s first on-campus dormitory, which will open next month, the release noted.
