PITTSFIELD, Maine — The theme for this year’s Central Maine Egg Festival is “Green Eggs and Ham,” based on the popular children’s book by Dr. Seuss.

“Besides providing for great family fun, the Egg Festival is a huge boon to the area economically, and many nonprofits raise money for their causes and activities during this week,” Town Manager Kathryn Ruth said Tuesday.

The egg festival will be held next week, Monday through Saturday. It will include parades, a carnival, street dance, window painting, children’s events and a craft fair.

Ruth said parade applications are still available. Lineup is 8 a.m. Saturday, July 25, with the parade starting at 9:15 a.m. at Industrial Park Road. There is no fee to enter the parade. Applications also may be dropped off at the town office.

For parade information, call Steve at 341-1597.

Ruth said the Egg Festival Committee also is looking for convertibles to escort the scholarship pageant contestants in the big parade. All years, makes and models of convertibles are welcome. “There are more than 40 young ladies competing in the pageant and we would like to have enough vehicles available,” Ruth said. “This is an exciting time for the young ladies.”

Call Terri at 341-2318 to offer the use of a convertible.

Ruth said musical entertainment is being booked for the festival. For information, call Steve at 341-1597.

“Egg-lympics” will be held on Wednesday, July 22, in Manson Park, with Sebasticook Valley Healthy Communities Coalition as host. There will be free, healthy snacks, egg decorating, sun bead bracelets, a coloring contest, water balloon toss, watermelon roll, veggie twister, water balloon relay and prizes and giveaways for children.

The arts club will offer the annual egg festival breakfast from 6 to 8 a.m. Saturday, July 25, in Manson Park, rain or shine. Adult admission is $6, children 12 and under $3 and families $15.

Ruth said crafters’ applications still are available for the egg festival marketplace, which will be held from 4 to 8 p.m. Thursday and Friday, July 23-24; and from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturday, July 25. Contact Dale at 487-6236.

Volunteers are needed to help with the parade, setup, running errands and with events during the egg festival, as well as cleanup afterward, Ruth said. Even a few hours would help, she said.

To volunteer, call festival president Steve Craig at 341-1597.
