FairPoint executive tapped to solve problems

The Associated Press

PORTLAND, Maine — Under growing pressure from regulators, FairPoint Communications Inc. is making organizational changes including the appointment of a transition chief reporting to the CEO to address ongoing operational problems in northern New England.

CEO David Hauser told The Associated Press on Wednesday that he has appointed Vicky Weatherwax to the newly created position of vice president of business solutions. She’ll address customer service, billing and other problems that have plagued the company for nearly six months.

In other changes, President Peter Nixon will focus on the company’s external operations, such as regulatory compliance and government affairs, while Executive Vice President Jeff Allen will focus on internal operations, including customer service, billing and engineering.

FairPoint bought Verizon Communications Inc.’s landline telephone and Internet business in Maine, New Hampshire and Vermont last year.
