ORLAND, Maine — An Ellsworth man was arrested early Tuesday morning on charges he threatened to kill his estranged wife’s boyfriend.

According to Deputy Jeff McFarland of the Hancock County Sheriff’s Department, officers received a 911 call from the woman who reported that her estranged husband, Jacob Murphy, 29, was at her residence on Route 1 in Orland near Duffy’s Restaurant. She said he was yelling and pounding on the door. He also threatened to shoot her new boyfriend, McFarland said.

Murphy was known to own guns and had two guns in the vehicle, according to McFarland. But he did not display the guns at the scene and never took them out of the vehicle, McFarland said.

Officers went to the scene, but Murphy had left by the time they arrived.

Officers from the Sheriff’s Department and the Ellsworth Police Department converged on Murphy’s vehicle and Deputy Rob Morang stopped the vehicle.

Murphy was arrested and charged with operating a motor vehicle while under the influence of an intoxicant and domestic violence terrorizing. He was taken to Hancock County Jail and later was released on bail.
