Maine police investigate child assault complaint

The Associated Press

PORTLAND, Maine — Police are investigating allegations that a 17-year-old juvenile detention center resident molested a 5-year-old boy during an outing for the teen in Cape Elizabeth, Maine.

In response, the Long Creek Youth Development Center has suspended recreational trips for its residents and will review its policies, a state Department of Corrections official told the Portland Press Herald.

Police say the alleged assault occurred at a public bathhouse at Crescent Beach State Park. The boy’s nanny called police to report the incident.

Residents of juvenile detention centers have been eligible to leave for work, family visits, and education, service or recreational trips, but they have to earn those brief getaways with good behavior.
