Brewer police summoned John Gonya, 54, of Brewer on a charge of criminal threatening a little after 7:30 p.m. Thursday.

According to Sgt. Rich Smith, Gonya made verbal threats to another adult male on Brimmer Street. A witness reported seeing a minisledgehammer in his hand. Police who went to the scene reported Gonya appeared intoxicated and upset.

Police said Gonya was under the impression that a neighbor had slashed his boat trailer tires in September 2008. A complaint was made at the time, but police determined there was not enough evidence to support claims that the victim had slashed the tires. (Dan MacLeod, BDN)
