Financier turned scammer Bernie Madoff, 71, who pleaded guilty to swindling people out of billions, was sentenced this week to 150 years in prison. The judge said Mr. Madoff’s crimes were “extraordinarily evil.” Is what he did worthy of 150 years? Or is Mr. Madoff a scapegoat for our times, in which risky high finance deals, bordering on the illegal, helped bring the economy down? What sort of prison life should Mr. Madoff have to endure? Should he be in prison with violent offenders, or does he deserve a more country

club atmosphere?
