EASTPORT, Maine — Town Manager George “Bud” Finch reported Monday that residents should be aware of a number of construction projects are under way around town.
“With the summer construction season upon us, there are a number of projects starting up,” he said in a press release.
The projects include:
• Ferry service and ferry landing construction project. The construction of the radiation portal monitoring system to be installed at the ferry landing began last Wednesday and is expected to be completed by early August.
• Water district. The contractor has begun installing temporary waterlines in preparation for the laying of the next phase of replacement waterlines. The project includes work to be done on three roads: Key from County Road to Water Street, Brighton Avenue from Key to Washington; and County Road from the fire station to Lower High Street, with the possibility of Brewster Road being done if sufficient funding is available. Details regarding the construction timeline will be set next week at the preconstruction meeting.
• Airport fuel system. The preconstruction meeting for the new Federal Aviation Administration-funded aviation fuel system will take place next week with groundbreaking expected to begin within the month.
• Waterfront walkway lights. Murphy’s Electric installed new light pole bases along the waterfront and will install the lighting units this weekend. This wraps up the most recent phase of the downtown revitalization program.
