SEARSPORT, Maine — Two people were taken to Waldo County General Hospital with injuries that were not life-threatening Sunday afternoon after a single-vehicle accident on U.S. Route 1.
The driver of the 2008 Volvo apparently fell asleep behind the wheel while southbound on U.S. 1 near Moose Point State Park at around 2:40 p.m. The car then went off the road and struck a guardrail, which was badly damaged, according to Searsport police Officer Michael Larrivee.
The driver and a passenger were in stable condition at the hospital, Larrivee said. Police had not released the names of the injured individuals as of Sunday evening, but Larrivee said they were seasonal residents of Maine.
