BETHEL, Maine — Wardens have found the body of a 40-year-old Bethel woman who was reported missing three days ago.

WCSH-TV said Kim Vanderlaan was found dead shortly before 10 a.m. Friday on Walkers Mountain behind her home on Route 26. Investigators have not characterized the death and are stopping short of calling it suspicious.

Vanderlaan’s boyfriend, John St. Hilaire of Bethel, called police Tuesday evening after discovering that she was gone but that her purse, keys and cell phone were left behind.

Wardens searched an area around the home on Wednesday and Thursday before organizing a larger search on Friday.

Lt. Pat Dorian of the Maine Warden Service said Vanderlaan, a mother of two, had moved to the area about a year ago from Rhode Island, where her two children live.
