Man gets 17 years on drug and gun charges

The Associated Press

PORTLAND, Maine — A member of a Boston street gang has been sentenced to 17½ years in prison for running a cocaine and gun ring between Maine and Boston.

Stanley Jenkins was sentenced Thursday in U.S. District Court in Portland. He pleaded guilty to drugs and weapons charges in February.

The Portland Press Herald said Jenkins brought crack cocaine from Massachusetts for distribution in Maine between December 2006 and February 2008. He would then bring guns from Maine to Massachusetts and sell them or give them to fellow members of the Franklin Hill Giants, a gang based at a public housing project in Dorchester.

Four other defendants have pleaded guilty in the case, including a mother of two from North Yarmouth who used her home as a distribution hub for the drugs and guns.
