LEWISTON, Maine — An Auburn man is being held on $25,000 cash bail following his arrest in the weekend robbery of a 74-year-old woman who was awakened when an intruder entered her Lewiston home.

Police said 39-year-old Lee Major admitted to his involvement and was charged Wednesday night with robbery and burglary.

The victim said she heard someone in the home early Sunday morning and tried to call police but was unable to get a dial tone. She said the intruder entered her bedroom, forced her head down and pushed her against a bureau, bruising her hip.

Police said the robber had cut the telephone wire to the Lincoln Terrace home and kicked in the front door to gain entry, then stole the victim’s purse, containing credit cards and about $30 in cash.
