Maine murder defendant denies killing

The Associated Press

FARMINGTON, Maine — The man accused of murdering Judith Flagg in her Fayette home more than 26 years ago denied killing her as he took the witness stand.

Fifty-two-year-old Thomas H. Mitchell Jr., formerly of South Portland, testified in his own defense Monday on the sixth day of his jury trial in Franklin County Superior Court.

He said he spent Jan. 6, 1983, the day Judith Flagg was stabbed to death, in South Portland with his aunt.

Mitchell was charged with the Flagg murder in 2006 after testing on old evidence revealed the presence of his DNA.
