GARLAND, Maine — A local woman lost her Parkman Road home and belongings Monday to a fast-moving fire.

Pam Haiko and her boyfriend, who declined to be identified, were not at home when a neighbor reported the fire around 10:45 a.m. Haiko said the 24-foor-by-32-foot, single-story home was insured through her mortgage.

The fire, which started in a back bedroom, is under investigation, Sgt. Tim York of the State Fire Marshal’s Office said Monday.

Corinna’s was the first department to receive the call and responded to the alarm, according to Capt. Jeffrey Belanger of the Garland Fire Department. When they learned the fire was in Garland, Corinna firefighters asked that Garland be notified, he said.

Dexter firefighters provided mutual aid on the scene, and Sangerville firefighters remained on standby at the Dexter fire station.

Haiko said the family plans to stay with her mother in Dexter until other plans are made.
