Friday’s heavy rain has prompted the postponement of Saturday’s state championship softball games in Classes A and C, and the move of the Class A baseball state final from Augusta to Orono.
Under the revised schedule announced by the Maine Principals’ Association on Friday afternoon, the Class A baseball final between Cony of Augusta and Deering of Portland now will be played at 2 p.m. Saturday on the artificial turf at Mahaney Diamond on the campus of the University of Maine in Orono.
That game originally was scheduled for Morton Field in Augusta.
The Class A softball final between Skowhegan and Scarborough has been postponed until Monday at a time and place to be determined, while the Class C softball final between Calais and Telstar of Bethel is postponed until 3 p.m. Monday at Brewer High School’s Coffin Field.
All other state championship games will be held at their originally scheduled times and locations.
The Classes B and D baseball finals will be played Saturday at Mahaney Diamond on the campus of Saint Joseph’s College in Standish. The Class D game, featuring Deer Isle-Stonington and Richmond, will start at noon, followed by the Class D final between Gardiner and Greely of Cumberland Center at 5 p.m.
The Classes B and D softball finals also will be played at Saint Joseph’s College, with the Class B game between Medomak Valley of Waldoboro and Fryeburg Academy at 11 a.m. and the Class D game between Woodland and Buckfield at 4 p.m.
The Class C baseball game between George Stevens Academy of Blue Hill and Saint Dominic of Auburn is still scheduled for a 2 p.m. start Saturday at Mansfield Stadium in Bangor.
