Wood composite center receives award

ROCKPORT — The Advanced Engineered Wood Composite Center’s Advanced Structures and Composites Center received an Academic Pioneer Award on Thursday for its contribution to the field of ocean energy.

Habib Dagher, the director of the center, accepted the award during the sixth annual EnergyOcean Conference at the Samoset Resort.

AEWC is working with experts at UMaine and in the industry to develop technology to harness wind power in the Gulf of Maine. An Advanced Wind Blade Prototyping Facility is expected to be completed in December.
