ATV-motorcycle crash sends 1 to hospital

CARIBOU, Maine — Police are investigating why a motorcycle and ATV collided Tuesday night near the Caribou-Woodland town line, causing serious injuries to one man who was flown to Bangor for care, Caribou Police Chief Mike Gahagan said Wednesday.

Richard Kish, 44, of Woodland suffered some broken bones in the collision and was taken to Cary Medical Center in Caribou, and then later was flown to Eastern Maine Medical Center in Bangor, the police chief said.

Police were sent at 9:30 p.m. to the outskirts of town on Woodland Center Road, also known as Route 228, to investigate the crash.

Elisha Lasienieck, 16, also of Woodland, was traveling westbound on a 2006 Arctic Cat ATV, when Kish, who was driving a 2002 Kawasaki motorcycle, came up behind him “and a collision occurred,” Gahagan said.

He said the cause of the crash is under investigation.

“We know that the left rear of the ATV and the front of the motorcycle connected,” he said.

Lasienieck was treated for some minor cuts and scrapes after the crash. Kish broke his collar bone and others, but a complete list of his injuries was not available. An EMMC official said Wednesday that the hospital had no information on Kish.

“Elisha had a helmet on but Richard Kish did not,” the police chief said.

Neither alcohol nor drugs appeared to be involved, Gahagan said.

Game Wardens from the Maine Wardens Service assisted at the scene.
