NORTHPORT, Maine — A Lincolnville man was arrested on drunken driving charges after rolling over his sport utility vehicle on Route 52 Sunday afternoon.

Jacob Eastman, 31, of True Road was charged with operating a motor vehicle while under the influence of intoxicants after the 4 p.m. accident.

When Waldo County Deputy Sheriff Dave Mushrall went to investigate the accident, he found the Northport First Responders treating the driver for minor cuts to his right arm. The 2008 Subaru the man was driving had left the road, hit a rock in a ditch and rolled over several times before coming to rest on its roof. The SUV was a total loss.

When Mushrall began interviewing the driver, he detected the odor of alcohol on his breath and observed that the man appeared unsteady on his feet. When Eastman failed to pass a field sobriety test, he was placed under arrest and taken to Waldo County Jail.

Eastman was released on personal recognizance bail Monday morning.
